Kopani's Story - kopi, family, and rasa
Introducing
Kopani
Kopani is our family’s love letter to coffee and to Ani—our mother. We are an Indonesian-owned micro roastery in Rochester, roasting small batches with intention so every cup carries rasa: the taste and the feeling. Time is yours. Take it.
Our name
Kopani = kopi + Ani In Bahasa Indonesia, kopi means coffee. Ani is our late Mama. We roast to honor her care, the growers who steward each harvest, and the communities that share every cup.
Our story
We started Kopani to bring a fresh, quietly elevated approach to roasting—rooted in Indonesia and open to the world. We value experimentation, education, and community.
Kopani began as a kitchen-table dream between sisters Lily and Michelle—one obsessed with the craft, the other with the experience. Lily learned coffee the scrappy way—hours of brewing, tasting, and refining until instinct met consistency. Michelle builds the bridge from roaster to community—clear systems, warm hospitality, and storytelling that centers people. Together we roast to elevate rasa: the taste and feeling a good cup leaves behind. We favor transparency over trends and partnership over transactions.
Surat Untuk Mama
A note for Mama
Ma,
We carry you into every roast. Kopani is our way of saying terima kasih—for your care, your courage, and the warmth you made from simple things. We named this space for you: kopi and Ani, held together.
When the roaster hums, we hear your steady voice. When we cup a new profile, we look for rasa—the taste and feeling that lingers—because you taught us that what lasts is how we make people feel.
We promise to lead with kindness, work with integrity, and keep community at the center—gotong royong, always.
Time is ours because you gave it first. We’ll spend it well.
With love,
Lily & Michelle
