A quintessential coffee for Indonesia. Our Sumatra coffee is bold, reliable and exactly what you can expect from a traditional wet-hulled coffee. We taste sweet notes of vanilla with a pleasant spice/tobacco body. Roasted medium- this coffee thrives for your immersion-heavy brews and shines through milk-based drinks as espresso for a full bodied cup.

This coffee comes from Buana Mandiri, a young cooperative established in 2014 in Bener Meriah, Sumatra. With around 1,300 members farming at 1,200–1,400 MASL, the group has prioritized sustainability from the start—distributing protective equipment, fertilizer, seedlings, and shade trees while supporting members through their own local mill.

Grown on the slopes of Mount Leuser, one of the world’s most bio-rich ecosystems, this lot showcases Sumatra’s signature depth and complexity. Distinct in profile, it owes its layered character to Indonesia’s traditional giling basah (wet-hulled) process, which produces the hallmark creamy body, gentle acidity, and notes of dried fruit, spice, and earth.

Hand-sorted three times for consistency, this lot represents both quality and a new generation of producers shaping Sumatra’s coffee future. This coffee was grown using organic practices by certified organic producers at origin.

How to brew

For the best experience, we recommend brewing 7-10 days off roast. Experiment with grind size, brew temperatures, ratio and time to find your sweet spot. For more details on your coffee, check out our brew guides.

How should I store my coffee to keep it fresh?

To keep your coffee as fresh as possible, store it in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. Avoid exposure to light, heat, and moisture.

Is it available in whole bean or pre-ground?

We offer it in both whole bean and pre-ground options. Whole beans are ideal for those who prefer to grind their coffee fresh before brewing, while our pre-ground option is convenient for quick, easy brewing.

What’s the best grind size?

The best grind size depends on your brewing method. For a French press, use a coarse grind. For pour-over or drip coffee, a medium grind is ideal. If you’re making espresso, go for a fine grind. Adjust the grind size to suit your personal taste and brewing preferences. In general, if it's too bold or bitter, try coarsening up your grind size- if it's weak or sour, go a bit finer.

Tracking Your Order

We roast every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday- your coffee will be roasted on the next business day from when your order is placed. Roasted to order, we will ship your coffee a day after it's been roasted. You’ll receive a confirmation email with tracking information as soon as your order is on its way.

Once your order has shipped, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a tracking number. You can use this number to check the status of your delivery at any time.
